Carte Generale du Royaume de la Nouvelle Espagne..... Alexander von Humboldt, 1809 44.5 " x 33.5"

After four years in South America, the wealthy German scientist spent nearly a year in Mexico. He was provided access to much of the material controlled by the Spanish government and unpublished. The resulting map was the best authority of the interior and southwest released at that time. Humboldt presented a copy to Thomas Jefferson in 1804 on his return to Europe. This copy has never been found. However, it may have been a source map for others that Humboldt claimed were plagiarized.
